Assigning a course to people

Zunderwork has no "assign to person" button, and that is deliberate. You describe who a course is for, and everyone who fits gets it, including the people who join next month. That description is made of tags.

The rule is short: a course reaches the people who share a tag with it.

#Choosing the audience

You set this in two places, and they do the same thing.

• When you publish a course, the dialog asks Who should see this course? if the course has no tags yet.
• Later, in the course itself, under the Assignment section.

Pick the tags whose members should get this course. Add more than one and the course goes to everyone in any of them, not only to people who have both.

Adding a tag later takes effect immediately: everyone with that tag finds the course in their list the next time they look. Removing a tag takes the course away from the people who only had it through that tag.

#Required or optional

Each tag you attach has a Required switch.

Turn it on and the course is mandatory for that audience. That is what analytics counts: who has finished, who has not, and who is overdue. Leave it off and the course is available to that group without counting against them.

You can combine the two on one course. Required for "Warehouse", optional for "Office" is a perfectly normal setup, because the same training can be a rule for one group and a nice-to-have for another.

#Deadlines

Next to each tag you can set Complete within a number of days.

The clock starts when the person receives the tag, not when you publish the course. Someone who joins in March gets the same number of days as someone who joined in January, without you touching anything. If a learner has two tags that both lead to this course with different windows, the later deadline is the one that applies.

Leave the field empty and there is no deadline. The course stays in the learner's list until they finish it.

Deadlines are what the reminder notifications hang on, so a course with no deadline can only send an "assigned" or "completed" notification, never a reminder that something is due.

#Conditions

Assignment decides who sees a course. Conditions, a separate section on the same screen, decides who may start it.

A condition is either "has tag" or "completed course", and you can combine them in groups with "match all" or "match any". A course that should only open after the introduction course is finished, or only for people who also carry the Forklift tag, is built here. Learners see a locked course with the requirements listed until they meet them.

Most courses need no conditions at all. If a course is simply for one group, the tag on the assignment does the whole job.

#Checking your work

You cannot verify an audience by looking at your own course list. Managers, administrators and owners see every course in the organization regardless of tags, so a course that reaches nobody looks perfectly normal to you.

Two checks that do work:

• On the courses overview, filter on No tags to list every course that reaches nobody. Anything published in that list is a mistake.
• Filter the users list by the tag you assigned, and see whether the people you expected are actually in it.
